For «The Image of the Enemy» show, Red Center gallery

The participants of «The Image of the Enemy» were asked to illustrate B. Pilnyak’s story «At the door» published in 1920s. The action of the story takes place in a provincial Kolomna in the midst of the Civil War. Each artist was free to pick a random piece of the text without any size restrictions.  «The Image of the Enemy» is a research project which should result in a collection of private views on the Civil War. The exhibition also employs a historical artifact - the copies of Vladimir Mayakovsky's «Okna ROSTA», the images where a common man of the former age is pictured as the class enemy and the psychological subtleties important for Pilnyak disappear. These copies are aligned to the particular historical event yet many distinctive features of it are timeless.
